Rajasthan: Geological Survey of India to study meteorite-like object

The object that fell with a deafening sound from the sky in Rajasthan's Sanchore town on Friday morning has been sent to the Geological Survey of India for further investigation.

Sanchore: The meteorite-like object which fell from the sky in Rajasthan's Sanchore town on Friday morning has been sent to the Geological Survey of India for detailed examination and research as the mysterious unidentified object was found to be 3 kilograms heavy and was emitting heat even three hours after it crashed.

The incident reportedly happened in Barsam Bypass Pulia area at 6.15 am in the morning after which Subdivision officer Bhupendra Yadav, along with the cops, rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

According to the locals, a loud explosive sound was heard when the object fell from the sky which resulted panic in that area. Yadav said, "A loud sound was heard after a suspected bomb-like material dropped from the sky. We have called an expert team from outside for the probe. Security has been beefed up and all the adjoining areas have been put on alert."

He further added that the Geological Survey of India has taken up the matter to investigate if it was a meteorite. "There was a massive sound in the morning when the object fell from the sky, it was as if an airplane had crashed. However, one one could spot what had fallen. It was only after few hours that the object was noticed in the one-foot-deep pit in the ground," a local said.
