Kerala draws up new plans to curb virus spread

Thiruvananthapuram: As cases in the state surged recently, the Kerala government has decided to implement a new strategy for Covid-19 restrictions as they give more relaxations. The restrictions will now be based on how many people tested positive in a sample of 1,000. The zones where covid positive cases are more than 10 out of 1,000 samples, there will be triple lockdown. Places except triple lockdown zones can operate shops for six days a week, with a lockdown on Sundays.

The state government also eased restrictions on the working hours of shops. Shops have been allowed to remain open from 7 am to 9 pm.

Kerala Health minister Veena George also advised people to avoid all public functions that can lead to huge gatherings.

"Kerala's Covid procedures are effective. The government is aimed at complete vaccination of citizens within a short span of time. So far 44.14 per cent have been given the first dose and 17.66 per cent the second dose. Considering the third wave as well, the vaccination process will facilitate further to people over the age of 60 and bedridden patients," said the health minister.
