Mysore city gets robot to clean its sewers

One of the cleanest cities in the country, Mysuru has now gone a step ahead by purchasing a sewer cleaning robot. Bandicoot, a semi-automatic robot will be used to clean the city's sewers.

Mysuru (Karnataka): Mysore has adopted a new way to clean the sewers with the help of Robot. Bandicoot, a semi-automatic robot, is the new one to clean the city’s sewers.

The semi-automatic robot was developed in Pune and the Mysuru is the first to adopt this system of cleaning sewers in the state. Bandicoot will replace men in sewers to eliminate manual scavenging. The 1.5 m tall semi-automatic robot weighs around 80kg and can travel up to a depth of 20 meters. Bandicoot is time and labour-efficient. It can clean a sewer in 20 minutes that otherwise takes 3 to 4 hours to manually clean.

Mysore City corporation has already purchased the robot machine and is providing training to scavengers as to how to use it. Experts are arriving at the city to train the labourers to use the Sewer cleaning robot.

The machine will be inaugurated by the Minister of Urban Development Byrathi Basavaraj. Mysuru city is the first in the state to use a robot machine to clean sewers, City corporation commissioner Guru Datha Heggade said.
