As rumours are rampant about the coronavirus, Dr Jasjeet Kaur, a health expert and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Haryana's Panchkula district, spoke to ETV Bharat at length about the spread of the deadly virus and its life span on different surfaces.

Dr Kaur said that lifespan of coronavirus varies on different surfaces and in different conditions.

"The coronavirus can last up to 2 days on a steel surface. In public transport vehicles, pillars are made of steel, it is therefore advised to avoid touching such point at any public place. On glass or wooden surfaces, the virus can remain active up to 4 days therefore everyone must remain cautious in touching such surfaces. On surfaces and utensils of stainless steel, plastic or mud, the virus has been found to be surviving up to a period of 5 days. Other than this, the virus survives for at least 8 hours on rubber or rubber made surfaces," said Dr Kaur.

She also urged people to wash their hands properly and to beware of rumours about the coronavirus as they are spreading thick and fast on social media.

It is to be noted that the coronavirus has taken the globe in its clutches. The number of people dying because of the virus is increasing day by day. Over 50,000 people have lost their lives across the world.
