Sydney: Cricket Australia chairman Earl Eddings on Tuesday accepted that organising the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia this year amid COVID-19 pandemic is "unrealistic".

The men's T20 World Cup was slated to be held from October 18 to November 15 Down Under.

The CA officials have earlier insisted that they are planning to stage the mega event as per schedule as Australia have managed to control the coronavirus outbreak.

Even though Australia have controlled the outbreak, many cricket playing countries have shut their borders due to virus-related travel restrictions. So it is going to be a lot difficult for Australia to organise the event and Eddings on Tuesday conceded that it is looking increasingly unlikely with each passing day.

"While it hasn't been formally called off this year, or postponed, trying to get 16 countries into Australia in the current world, where most countries are still going through COVID spiking, I think it's unrealistic, or it's going to be very, very difficult," he told reporters.

Eddings also revealed that they have put forward a number of options in front of the international body (ICC) regarding the same.

"The ICC are having meetings as we speak, it's a bit of a movable feast at the moment," he said.

The newly appointed Cricket Australia's interim chief Nick Hockley said that they are hoping that International Cricket Council (ICC) will make a decision on the same next month.

"We've got a fantastic local organising committee who are busy preparing for every eventuality and the decision that will come," he said.
