Hyderabad: Bollywood star Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan, who starred together in Gauri Shinde's Dear Zindagi, have joined hands for an upcoming film Darlings which will be produced by King Khan's banner Red Chillies.

According to reports, the film is set in Mumbai against the backdrop of a middle-class family and traces the lives of two women, as they find courage and love in exceptional circumstances. Reports also suggest that the makers have roped in Shefali Shah to play Alia's mother in the film which is a quirky story about an endearing mother-daughter duo.

While the film is yet to be announced officially, whispers about Darlings' release in later this year are already making rounds of the tinselville. The film is said to go on the floors as early as the first quarter of 2021 in Mumbai. Directed by Jasmeet K Reen, Darlings may also star Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathew.

Meanwhile, Alia has two hotly-anticipated films releasing this year. The actor will be seen in Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra, where she shares screen space with beau Ranbir Kapoor. She also has SS Rajamouli's ambitious film RRR coming out on October 13.
