A meeting of independent MLAs backing the Ashok Gehlot faction was held in Jaipur on Wednesday, wherein the legislators reposed their trust in the Rajasthan chief minister.

Jaipur (Rajasthan): A meeting between 13 independent MLAs was held on Wednesday amidst dramatic developments at the Circuit House in the Pink City. Sirohi MLA Sanyam Lodha, who led the meet, told reporters that all the independent MLAs have expressed their faith in Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Speaking about Sachin Pilot, Lodha said that the former was fortunate to be the son of a leader like Rajesh Pilot, adding that he became an MP and a minister at a young age.

"Even after losing the Lok Sabha elections, he became the president of the state Congress and went on to become the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan. He had never seen failure and defeat in life, but he faced defeat for the first time with regard to the post of chief minister. It will take him a while to learn and digest what defeat is," Lodha said.

The independent MLAs made it clear that they "completely support" Ashok Gehlot and that "Gehlot is Congress". "It is the prerogative of the chief minister to decide when the cabinet should be expanded and who should be included. It is not in the interests of the people of the state to create pressure and seek a deadline for it (cabinet expansion)," he said adding that they were not monks.
