Amit Shah reviews J&K situation after Taliban takes over Afghanistan

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday reviewed the security scenario of Jammu & Kashmir with top officials from the Union Territory administration and central intelligence agencies. National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval was also present in the meeting. The meeting was called by Amit Shah to review the law and order situation of J&K after the Taliban takes over Afghanistan.

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday reviewed the security scenario of Jammu & Kashmir with top officials from the Union Territory administration and central intelligence agencies. National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval was also present in the meeting. The meeting was called by Amit Shah to review the law and order situation of J&K after the Taliban takes over Afghanistan.

The Home Ministry also took a strong note of the intelligence inputs provided by central intelligence agencies on possible terror attacks likely to be carried out by Pakistan based terrorist organisations especially Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, IB Director Arvind Kumar, RAW Chief Samant Goel, Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Mukund Naravane, Lt. Governor of Jammu & Kashmir Manoj Sinha, DGP of Jammu and Kashmir Dilbag Singh, J&K intelligence chief RR Swain, CRPF DG Kuldeep Singh, BSF DG Pankaj Singh among others were present in the meeting.

The meeting also reviewed the development issues of J&K. The meeting reviewed the sudden surge in the number of infiltrations along the Line of Control (LoC). It was the first such meeting on security chaired by Amit Shah after the Taliban takes over Afghanistan. On 2 September, Indian security forces foiled an infiltration bid by terrorists from across the border in the Krishna Ghati sector. Earlier, on 12 July and 6 August, five terrorists were eliminated by the security forces in the Nowshera and Thananmandi areas of J&K.

Sources privy to the development told ETV Bharat that the meeting also reviewed the ministerial formation in Afghanistan. "Recent messages of Taliban leaders on Kashmir was also scrutinized in the high powered meeting," sources said. The meeting also discussed the implications following the death of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. "All the border guarding agencies and the paramilitary forces have been asked to intensify their surveillance and patrolling to avert all anti-India activities," sources said.
