As per a study published in JAMA, it was found that Sexual health and satisfaction are key components of health and well-being. Sexual relationships can positively influence life satisfaction and happiness and sexual activity may lower heart rate and blood pressure while also reducing stress by promoting oxytocin release Conversely, lower sexual activity has been associated with increased mortality and poor self-reported health.

Sexual needs are basic to any human being. As one enters adult life, they become more sexually active, but as they age, get busy with their lives and amidst all the responsibilities, people are likely to go through some dry days. If these days last long i.e. if a is deprived of sex for a long time, he/she may experience certain side effects. Although it may depend from person to person, here are some common things one may face!

This survey study published in JAMA found that from 2000 to 2018 sexual inactivity increased among US men such that approximately 1 in 3 men aged 18 to 24 years reported no sexual activity in the past year. Sexual inactivity also increased among men and women aged 25 to 34 years, with the increase among men mainly occurring among unmarried individuals.

  1. Feeling Anxious
    Sex is believed to calm a person down and lower their anxiety levels. Also, sex makes you feel connected to your partner. But having dull days can make you feel a little detached from them, and you may not be able to seek the emotional support you are looking for. All this can leave you feeling anxious. Besides this, having sex releases happy hormones like oxytocin and endorphins that help you manage stress, as well as the former helps you have a good night’s sleep.

    Having sex is related to a stronger immune system, perhaps because sex increases the levels of immunoglobulin A or IgA in the body, which helps fight the germs. Therefore, lesser sex means the chances of you catching a common cold may be more.
  3. Weak Memory
    Studies link an active sex life to improved memory, although more research needs to be done on the same. However, having a dull sex life may cause forgetfulness and you may have trouble recalling things.

However, having sex with multiple partners or unprotected sexual practices can still up your chances of prostate cancer.
  6. Dried And Tightened Vaginal Wall
    If you are a woman who hasn’t had sex in a long time, your vagina is likely to change a little. The vaginal walls may tighten. Although it is not a bad thing, when you get back to having sex again, you may experience vaginal pain, tears, and even bleeding, because the muscles become stiff. Also, post-menopause, without regular intercourse, your vagina may dry out or lubricate less.
