Four arrested for lynching a Dalit youth to death in Rajasthan

A Dalit youth was beaten to death on the suspicion of a love affair in Pilibanga Hanumangarh on Thursday. The aggrieved family members agreed to post-mortem after officials assured of strict action against the killers on Saturday.

Hanumangarh: Police in Rajasthan has arrested four people and named another 11 in the case of a brutal murder, wherein a Dalit youth in Prempura village of Pilibanga police station area was lynched to death late on Thursday evening.

After the incident, the relatives of the aggrieved family and members of the society demanded the arrest of all the accused, compensation of Rs 30 lakhs and a government job for one member of the family.

What happened in Prempura on Thursday?

The video of 30-year-old Dalit Jagdish Meghwal being brutally assaulted had gone viral. A resident of Prempura village in the Pilibanga police station area, Meghwal was suspected of having a love affair. The accused dragged him into a field late Thursday evening and thrashed him with sticks and bars, then strangled him to death. Later, the accused threw his body outside his house and fled.

The accused had made a video of the assault and shared it on social media, which went viral. After the incident, panic spread in the area.

Case filed on Friday

On Friday, the anger of the family members and members of the society was uncontrollable. The family was adamant about not conducting the post-mortem. They demanded that all the accused in the case be arrested first.

Apart from this, a compensation of Rs 30 lakhs and a government job for one member of the family was demanded. People from Dalit organizations also started gathering on the spot.

Out of the 11 accused, 4 were arrested by the police. Police teams were formed to launch manhunt for the other accused and searched in multiple places to nab them.

Post-mortem conducted after two days on Saturday

SDM and CO Ranveer Meena assured the family of appropriate action after which the family members got ready for the post-mortem of the dead body. The body was later handed over to the relatives for cremation.

Although the family had demanded a compensation of Rs 30 lakhs and a government job for one member of the family, the administration has not accepted the demands yet. The family has been assured proper compensation for now.
