However, despite this, a basic thing that people often forget is maintaining a correct posture.

ETV Bharat Sukhibhava is going to share with you some secrets to follow the correct posture, to avoid many kinds of pains and other health related problems.

What Is A Correct Posture?

Sitting, standing, walking incorrectly can or leaning forward and walking with loose shoulders can result in body pain. Dr. Hem Joshi, Senior Orthopedist based in Dehradun explains that wrong posture is responsible for most of the back pain, stiff neck, shoulder pain, etc. That is why it is very important that the right poster is adopted while getting up, sitting, bending, sleeping and even standing.

  • Sitting Properly
If you always sit leaning forward or in a weird posture, there is a lot of pressure on the spine. If you are sitting on a chair, make sure that your back is completely adjacent to the back of the chair. Apart from sitting, it is also important to see that the distance between the chair and the table you are sitting on while studying or working at the table is not too much, as well as the height of the chair and the table is also correct.
Sitting on a chair for a long time undoubtedly puts pressure on the waist and can cause pain, so if possible, get up from your chair at regular intervals and walk for a while.
  • Stand Upright
Usually while standing and talking to someone or doing a task or even walking, people usually do it with bowed shoulders. This not only causes pain but also affects a person’s personality. Therefore, while standing, remember not to lean forward and keep your shoulders, waist, neck and knees also straight. Correct standing posture also improves our gait. Also, standing in the right posture improves our gait.
  • Beware Of Text Neck
Nowadays, be it kids, adults or the elderly, everyone spends most of their time using phones. But, constantly staring at the screen with heads tilted downwards can lead to a condition called ‘Text Neck’. This causes problems like pain in the neck, pain in the eyes, feeling heavy in the head, etc. Therefore, to avoid text neck, it is very important that while using mobile phones, laptops or desktops, your screen should be at your eye level, so that you do not have to bend your neck for a long time.
  • Take Care While Driving
When driving for a long time, it is natural for the driver to lean a little forward to be seated in a comfortable position, but this is not right. while driving, the person should try to keep their back as straight as possible. Nowadays, seat as well as steering wheel adjustment feature is available in almost all the cars. This way, the driver can adjust his/her seat according to their height.
But remember, the seat should be adjusted in such a way that the steering wheel is perfectly aligned with your shoulder. It should be neither too high, nor too low. Also, the distance between you and the steering wheel should be in proportion, so that you do not have to pull your body much for brakes and gears while driving. This way, back pain and neck stiffness, which are usually experienced after a long drive, can be avoided to a great extent.
  • Avoid Thick Pillows
Sleeping on a thick pillow can cause neck pain and stiffness. This is because a heightened pillow disturbs the body balance and puts a lot of pressure on our necks. Therefore, people who are already suffering from back pain or problems related to the spine, should completely avoid such heightened pillows and opt for either a thin one or no pillow at all.
  • Take Care When You Bend
It is necessary to maintain a right posture while bending, especially when you bend to lift or pick something because being careless about it can cause back pain and worsen the already existing pain. Do not lean forward or come up with a jerk. If you feel pressure on your waist while lifting something, bend or sit on your knees and then lift it. This way, your lower back won’t be affected.
