A police team lead by Haldwani City SP, Jagdish Chandra seized over 30 sacks of hazardous biomedical waste after raiding a scrap dealer's godown in Himachal Pradesh's Haldwani.

Haldwani (Uttarakhand): Uttarakhand police have found large quantities of biomedical waste with a scrap dealer in Haldwani city on Thursday.

Acting on reliable inputs, the police team headed by Haldwani City SP, Jagdish Chandra conducted a raid on the premises of scrap dealers in the city and found a large quantity of biomedical waste stored in the scrapyard godown.

Police found over 30 sacks of bio-medical waste from the godown and registered a case against the srap dealer. The waste seized included needles, syringes, vials, used cotton, and gloves etc.

Speaking in this regard, Haldwani Magistrate Richa Singh said, "The biomedical waste apparently belonged to Sushila Tiwari Hospital in Haldwani. Police should investigate into the incident and serve a show-cause notice to the scrap dealer for violating the provisions of the Biomedical Waste Management Rules."

"All the biomedical waste was seized in the presence of cops and sent for disposal as the residents of the area do not contract any infection. The health officer of the Municipal Corporation will investigate the case," said Haldwani City SP, Jagdish Chandra.
