Uttarakhand Rains: Five houses collapse, portion of bridge damaged

Five houses were damaged and livestock washed away in Munsyari's Chhoribagar village after monsoon rains poured throughout Saturday night and the Gori river overflowed. A portion of a bridge also collapsed at Madkhot on Pithoragarh Munsyari road.

Pithoragarh: Heavy rains continued to wreak havoc in Uttarakhand as several houses were washed away after the water levels of the Gori river in Pithoragarh district reached dangerous proportions.

Five houses were damaged and livestock was washed away in Munsyari's Chhoribagar village after monsoon rains poured throughout Saturday night and the Gori river overflowed.

Officials reached the spot to provide relief to the affected people and to take control of the situation.

No casualty was reported as the inmates of the houses were evacuated safely.

The important routes connecting Munsyari are closed due to landslides.

A portion of a bridge also collapsed at Madkhot on Pithoragarh Munsyari road, following incessant rainfall on Sunday.

Teams of Chamoli district administration and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) cleared the Badrinath Highway which was blocked at Bhanerpani, Pipalkoti due to landslide. The district administration distributed water bottles and biscuits to the stranded passengers.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday predicted fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy showers over Uttarakhand and other states in the north during the next three days.

"Under the influence of the above meteorological conditions: Fairly widespread/widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over J-K, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi and UP during next three days," IMD had said in a tweet earlier today.

  • Under the influence of the above meteorological conditions:
    i) Fairly widespread/widespread rainfall with isolated hvy to very hvy falls very likely over J&K, Ladakh, GilgitBaltistan & Muzaffarabad, HP, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and UP during next 3 days.
