Farrukhabad: The sessions court on Saturday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Louise Khurshid, the wife of former Union Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid in a nine-year-old case pertaining to alleged misappropriation of central government funds meant for disabled persons.
The case was registered against Louise Khurshid and Trust Secretary Athar Farooki in the fraud of millions of rupees.
On Saturday, the case of forgery was registered at Farrukhabad's Bilaspur police station.
Reportedly, Dr Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust, an NGO in Farrukhabad, run by former MLA Louise Khurshid, was given a grant of Rs 71.50 lakh by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for distribution of free equipment to the disabled in 17 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
The money was granted to the NGO on March 30, 2010, by the government funds for the distribution of wheelchairs and other equipment to disabled persons across UP.
Later during investigation in 2010, the police revealed that the money allocated to the trust was never disbursed to the intended beneficiaries and registered a case against them.
During its inquiry, Economic Offence Wing (EOW), Lucknow lodged a case against Louise and Athar Farooqi. EOW also registered an FIR against Louise’s associate Pratanyshu Shukla, the representative of trust, for forging the signatures of Aliganj tehsildar.
Chargesheet was filed against all of them in the court. The EOW charged the accused under IPC sections 467, 468, 471 and 120B.
