Hyderabad: With Cyclone Gulab throwing the normal life out of gear, the government has declared a holiday on Tuesday for government and private educational institutions, government and private organisations in the state. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao took this decision as the Meteorological Department has predicted that heavy rains are likely to continue for another two days in the state.

Emergency departments like revenue, police, fire, municipal, panchayat raj, irrigation, roads and buildings were exempted from the holiday. The Chief Minister
has directed the officers and staff of the departments concerned to be on duty and see that there was no loss of life or property due to heavy rains.

On the other hand, the Telangana Legislative Assembly and Council meetings have been postponed for three days. The two Houses will meet again on October 1 at 10 am, said Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Council Pro-tem Chairman V Bhupal Reddy. Legislative secretary Narasimha Charyulu issued orders in this regard.

Earlier, Assembly Speaker and Council Pro-tem Chairman disclosed that the two Houses will meet on Tuesday to conclude sessions, but MLAs and MLCs have asked Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and V Bhupal Reddy to postpone the meetings to help the people of their respective constituencies in the wake of floods across the state. In turn, they contacted the Chief Minister and the leaders of the Opposition and the latter reportedly gave his nod to adjourn the joint sittings for three days.
