Cyclone Gulab: Control room set up, techie washed away in flood found dead

Hyderabad: With Cyclone Gulab making landfall, heavy rains have lashed the state of Telangana for the past 24 hours. Authorities have warned people not to come out of their homes unless absolutely necessary. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that there is a chance of the storm weakening in the next six hours.

The sea has also become turbulent due to the effect of Gulab. Hyderabad meteorological department predicted heavy to very heavy rains for the coming three days in Hyderabad. A high alert was also sounded for people in the city for today and tomorrow.

Heavy rains lashed the Mahabubabad district. The ceiling of the ICU ward of the Mahabubabad government hospital collapsed due to the incessant rains. No loss of life has been reported in the case. The collapsed parts of the ceiling fell on two patients but no harm to patients was reported.

Disaster department zonal commissioners, deputy commissioners, HODs have been alerted that emergency teams like NDRF should be ready for the emergency measures. GHMC has ordered disaster management to be quick to respond if any flood victims call the emergency number.

Rains along with thunder and storms have been occurring all over the state. Rainfall has been reported at Jeedimetla, Kompally, Amberpet, Kachiguda, Golnaka, Nallakunta, Uppal, Ramanthapur, Peerjadiguda, Boduppal, Medipally, LB Nagar, Vanasthalipuram, Hayat Nagar, Kukatpally, KPHB colony, Hyder Nagar, Alvin colony, Pragathi Nagar, Nizampet, Bachupally areas.

In the meantime, the body of a techie who fell in a manhole and was washed away on Saturday was found in the Neknampur lake about 3 km from his house. The victim was identified as Rajinikanth, working as a software engineer at Shadnagar. Rajinikanth had ventured out from his residence around 9 pm for some work when suddenly heavy rain hit the area. Trying to cross the waterlogged road on his way back, he fell into a drainage pit and was washed away.
