Email forwarders, cybercriminals' favourite way to target a corporate

With technology on the rise, there is more room for cybercrimes as reports reveal that a hacker can even hack a company's account by putting an email forwarder to mislead the individual. Cyber Security Expert Sachin Sharma says that all companies in the corporate sector should pay special attention to e-mail security to avoid getting caught in the antics of cyber hackers.

Jaipur: If you are a part of the corporate sector and send out various important data, invoice or bills for your company then this piece of news is useful for you. Cyber hackers are now using e-mail forwarder to target corporates.

Recently, a hacker hacked the e-mail account of a well-known company by putting a forwarder. An invoice of 38 lakh rupees was sent to a client abroad along with information of the company’s bank accounts.

Shortly after the company's e-mail was mailed to the client, the hacker sent a new invoice to the client, in a second mail. In the new mail, he had added his own bank account and asked for the payment to be made in the bank account sent in the second invoice instead of the first one from the company.

However, the client contacted the company's officials and inquired about the new invoice and bank account before depositing the payment in the bank account sent by the hacker. The right step was taken at the right time helped the company to know that their account was hacked.

Cyber Security Expert Sachin Sharma said that all companies in the corporate sector should pay special attention to e-mail security to avoid getting caught in the antics of these cyber hackers.

Also, they should enable the antivirus in every computer system. At the same time, the companies should not install pirated antivirus on the computer since they would crash making them vulnerable for cyber-attacks.
