Eight days after the deadly landslide in Kerala's Idukki district, a pet dog finally traced the body of its two-year-old playmate. Sadly however, the dog has seemingly not come to terms with the reality, as it continues to remain at the spot where the body was found, perhaps expecting its human friend to return.

Idukki (Kerala): In a heartbreaking tale, a pet dog, who had been frantically looking for its owners who had gone missing after the landslide in Kerala's Idukki, finally found the body of the two-year-old girl.

For the past eight days since the landslide at Pettimudi, the dog Koovi had been sniffing and running around in the area, perhaps expecting its human friends to return.

As rescue teams retrieved bodies from the debris and the river in Pettimudi in the search operations, Koovi's owners could not be traced.

Finally on Friday, Koovi himself located the lifeless body of his little playmate Dhanushka. The body of the two-year-old was found blocked by a tree that had been lying under a bridge.

The Fire and Rescue personnel and the Police team were searching for the missing persons around the gravel bank area, about four kilometres away from Pettimudi. When the rescue personnel saw the dog sniffing around in the area from early in the morning and staring at one particular spot, it drew their attention.

When they checked the spot, they found the body of the child and retrieved it.

Sadly however, the dog is yet to comprehend the reality that his little human friend will never come back. The dog continues to remain at the spot where the girl's body was found, perhaps expecting her to return.

Dhanushka's father Pratheesh Kumar's body was found last week. Her mother Kasthoori and sister Priyadarshini are yet to be found and are feared dead. The child's grandmother Karuppayi is the only survivor in the family.
