Son of single mother qualifies UPSC civil services exam in 4th attempt in Karnataka's Vijayapura

Yalaguresha Nayaka of Muddebihala Tanda has secured 890th rank in his fourth attempt in UPSC exam.

Vijayapura: In an inspiring story of grit and determination, a son of a single mother in Vijaypura district of Karnataka has qualified the prestigious UPSC civil services examination in his fourth attempt by braving the challenges all these years. The results of the civl services exam were declared on Tuesday. In the examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for the selection of candidates for the Indian Administrative Service, Yalaguresh Arjuna Nayaka of the district has secured 890th rank.

Yalaguresh, a resident of Sarura Tanda in Muddebihala taluk of Vijayapur district, qualified the exam with sheer hardwork and determination as he cracked the exam in his fourth attempt. Yalaguresha, who passed UPSC, did not get any coaching from any coaching center. Yelaguresha said that he achieved the feat by studying in a library near Atthiguppe metro station in Bangalore.

His father was an LIC agent who was separated from the family leaving the children's upbringing entirely on fell on Yalaguresh's mother. But Yalaguresh has paid off his mother's hardwork by braving the challenges and qualifying the UPSC exam this year. He has two brothers and three sisters. Two of his sisters are married and the elder brother is serving as a police constable in Mysore.

Another brother is studying for a competitive exam. Yelaguresha completed his primary education at Sarura Tanda, 6th to 10th standard at Santa Kanakadasa School, Muddebihal and PUC and graduation from MGVC Educational Institution while staying in a hostel. In another success story, Pooja from Mysore worked in a private company, left her corporate job to qualify UPSC exam.

After completing her engineering studies, she appeared in her first UPSC exam in 2022. However, Pooja didn't even pass the prelims exam. However, in her second attempt this year, she has secured 390th rank in the UPSC exam. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Tuesday announced the results of the UPSC exam with two candidates from Ramanagara district qualifying.

Damini M Das, a young woman from Malur Pattana village in Channapatna taluk, got 345th rank, while Cheluvaraju from Harohalli got 238th rank and brought glory to the state and the district. Damini M Das hails from a farmer's family background. She completed her primary and high school education at Presidency School, Bangalore.

She did PUC from Vidyavardhak PU College and did her higher education in Computer Science from Bangalore Institute of Technology College. Cheluvaraju from a farming family of Dodbadigere near Harohalli in Kanakapura taluk is an electrical engineering graduate, Cheluvaraju studied in government schools from primary to secondary PUC.

Speaking to the media about this, he said, "This is the reward for continuous hard work. In the coming days, I will do good work for the country, including providing better facilities to the people in the government service and implementing government projects." Over a question about exam preparation, he said, "Compared to other competitive exams, UPSC requires more practice. It is more important to know what you have learned than how many hours you have studied. You need to practice for 10 hours a day."
