A total of 24 new ministers are to be sworn in in Karnataka at the Raj Bhavan on Saturday.

Bengaluru: Ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of 24 new ministers in Karnataka, chief minister Siddaramaiah and deputy CM D K Shivakumar on Friday met former Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party leader Rahulk Gandhi in New Delhi. Sources said that the CM and deputy CM met Sonia and Rahul to discuss the cabinet expansion in the state with the leaders.

Sources said that 24 new ministers will be sworn in in Karnataka on Saturday. The swearing in is scheduled to be held at 11:45 am at the Raj Bhavan. Governor Tawar Chand Gehlot will administer the oath to the new ministers. A letter has already been submitted to the governor by the state government and the governor who is on tour will return to the city tonight and is likely to approve the appeal.

With Congress winning 135 of the seats in the recently concluded assembly election in Karnataka, the selection of MLAs for the ministerial berths has been a challenge for the state leadership. The meeting of CM Siddaramaiah and his deputy D K Shivakumar with Sonia and Rahul is believed to have zeroed in on the 24 new faces to be sworn in tomorrow.

Sources said that after the list was finalized on Thursday, DK Shivakumar, who was in Delhi, returned to Bangalore late at night to attend a private event. However, due to the urgency felt by the party high command, CM Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar left for Delhi again this morning where they discussed the cabinet expansion with the high command.

Reliable sources said that MLAs Iswara Khandre, Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Sivananda Patil, Sharanbasappa Gowda Darsanapura, Dr HC Mahadevappa, Piriyapatna Venkatesh, SS Mallikarjuna, Bairathi Suresh, Krishna Byregowda, Rahim Khan, Puttaranga Shetty, Chintamani Sudhakar, HK Patil, Cheluvarayaswamy, Madhugiri KN Rajanna, Madhu Bangarappa, Mankala Vaidya, Shivraj Thangadagi, RB Thimmapura, Rudrappa Lamani, Sharanprakash Patil, NS Bhosaraju, N Nagendra have been finalized for the ministerial posts.

On the other hand, senior MLAs BK Hariprasad, Salim Ahmed, Dinesh Gundurao, RV Deshpande, NA Harris, Laxman Savadi, M Krishnappa, Narendraswamy, Tanveer Seth, NY Gopalakrishna, HD Ranganath, SR Srinivas, BK Sangamesh, TB Jayachandra, HC Balakrishna, MY Patil, Ajay Singh, Manjal Fatima, Basavaraja Rayareddy, Raghavendra Hitnal, Ashok Pattana, H.Y. Matey, Vinay Kulkarni, U.B. Bankar, Srinivas Mane, Santhosh Lad and others have missed out on the ministerial berths.
