Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) : An unidentified woman, who was believed to be an intruder from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), was shot dead by security forces on Monday. The troops fired at her after the woman ignored warnings and crossed the Line of Control (LoC). The incident took place in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.
The woman suspect crossed the LoC in the Kamalkote area and did not stop at that. She kept moving forwards and was coming close to the border fence with India. She was challenged by the troops but she did not pay heed and went on with her forward movement, the official sources said. Left with no alternative, the security forces then opened fire on her, causing bleeding injuries and resulting in her death, they added.
According to the officials, the matter is being investigated. It is yet to be known whether the deceased woman was armed with weapons or not when crossed over into the LoC.

Meanwhile, in the last week of April this year, the Police apprehended a father and son duo after they crossed over from Pakistaon-occupied-Kashmir and came near the Line of Control in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The arrested duo was questioned by the security officials. No incriminating material was recovered from their possession at that time. The authorities were making an in-depth investigation into whether or not the father and son deliberately or inadvertently came nearer to the Line of Control. Intrusions along the LoC remained a matter of high concern even as the security forces are on high alert to prevent this.
