Tribal people of Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh hold on strong to their old traditions. They cut off from the outside world for months. The 'Lahaul-Spiti tunnel' is expected to increase the connectivity of the district with the nearby regions.

Kullu: The tribal people of the district even today are keeping alive their centuries old culture, traditions and values, stated the Tribal Development, Agriculture Minister, Dr Ramlal Markanda in Shagun-2019 organised by Lahaul-Spiti Student Organisation at Tribal Building of Kullu.

Inspite of Lahoul-Spiti being an inaccessible and remote region, which remains cut off from the rest of the world for five to six months, the farmers in the region are advanced in the field of agriculture and horticulture.

Markanda further added that farmers here not only manage to earn during those months, but the per capita income is highest in the state.

The major project 'Lahaul-Spiti tunnel', which was initiated by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is likely to be inaugurated this year. The tunnel is expected to increase the tourism of the district and more employment opportunities will be provided to the youth.

The people of the district see this tunnel as a blessing as the district will get perennial connectivity and people's life will become much easier.

It is undoubtedly challenging to keep old traditions alive in today's materialistic world, but people of tribal areas still respect their social ideals and values and are managing to stick to them.
