Shimla: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the 9.02 km long Rohtang Atal Tunnel on October 3. Security agencies are cautious about PM's visit and preparations are going on for the visit. ETV Bharat held a special conversation with Chief Minister Jairam Thakur regarding PM Modi's visit.
'Atal ji's dream came true'
CM Jairam Thakur said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming to Himachal for the inauguration of Atal Tunnel, it is a privilege for us. CM said that the dream which the former Prime Minister Late. Atal Bihari Vajpayee had seen that it is now being completed. The Atal Tunnel will also prove to be a boon (gift) for the people of Lahaul. He said that due to heavy snowfall, Lahaul Valley was cut off from the country for 4 months. Now, people will get the convenience of going through this tunnel and the people of Lahaul will be connected with the country and the world.
PM Modi's visit on Oct 3
Significantly, it is the longest tunnel in the world, built at an altitude of about 10 thousand feet. The CM said that this tunnel will prove beneficial for the economy of Lahaul Valley as well as the tourism sector of Himachal. Regarding PM Modi's program on October 3, the Chief Minister said that PM Modi will first go to the South Portal where the tunnel will be inaugurated from Manali side, after that the PM will go to the North Portal and flag off a bus. PM Modi will also address a public meeting in Sissu. CM Jairam Thakur said that due to Corona infection, the inaugural program of Atal Tunnel has been kept small.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will also come
Apart from PM Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will also participate in the inaugural program of Atal Tunnel in Rohtang to be held on October 3. Apart from this, MoS Finance Anurag Thakur, Himachal Chief Minister Jairam Thakur, ministers of HP govt. and some top leaders of the state will also be present in the program.
