Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel on Wednesday seized three gold bars from a passenger travelling from Imphal to Bengaluru. The seized goods are worth approximate Rs 23 lakh.

Imphal (Manipur): The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel on Wednesday nabbed a passenger with three gold bars at Imphal airport. The weight of the gold bars was about 500 gm worth approximately Rs 23 lakh. The passenger was identified as Ragamath Ali and was en route to Bengaluru.

According to a press release by the CISF, on Wednesday at about 2.07 pm frisking of a passenger at the Security Hold Area (SHA) of Imphal airport, Assistant Sub-Inspector Vikhram Sabal of CISF noticed the presence of a medal in the lower part of his body. On suspicion, the passenger was taken to a separate place in SHA for a thorough search. He was later identified as Ragamath Ali A S/o Ameer R/o Ramanathapuram, Sundarapandiapattinam (Tamil Nadu), who was supposed to travel to Kolkata by IndiGo Airlines flight No.6E-6087 at 3.30 pm and onward bound for Bengaluru by IndiGo Airlines flight No.6E-348 at 4.30 pm.

On questioning, the passenger confessed that he was carrying gold bars concealed in the body cavity (rectum). Thereafter, three gold bars weighing about 500 gm worth approximately Rs 23 lakh wrapped in the plastic tape were recovered from his possession.

The passenger along with the gold bars was later handed over to the customs officials.
