Indian men's 4x400m relay team finishes fifth in World Athletics Championships 2023 final

The Indian 4x400m Men team comprising Muhammed Anas, Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Ajmal, and Rajesh Ramesh will compete in the finals today (Monday 1:07 am IST). Notably, the team achieved a new Asian record time of 2:59:05 on Saturday, securing their spot in the event's final.

Budapest: The Indian men's relay team, which set a new Asian record on Saturday and qualified for the final on Sunday at the ongoing World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest, came fifth in the final.

Earlier, Muhammed Anas Yahiya initially set the tone for a thrilling race, but Amoj Jacob faltered, finding himself second to last at the conclusion of the second lap. Muhammad Ajmal Variyathodi showed a semblance of good fight as he overtook the Dutch competitor, securing the third to last position. Rajesh Ramesh clocking in at 2:59:92s displayed spirited fight but that was not enough for podium finish.

Hall, representing the USA, seized the lead from Great Britain, displaying his remarkable prowess. The USA clinched the coveted gold medal, crossing the finish line with a remarkable time of 2:57.31s. France, in an impressive performance, secured the silver medal with a time of 2:58.45s, while Great Britain took home the bronze medal, completing the race in 2:58.71s.

Earlier Indian men's ' team broke the Asian record of 2:59.51, set by Japan at the world championships in Oregon last year. The Indian team finished behind the USA in a nine-team heat 1.The USA clocked a time of 2:58.47 and finished first while Great Britain finished third with 2:59.42 to take the final qualifying spot in heat 1. The first three finishers from each of the two heats and two other teams with the fastest times made the cut for the final.
