Dharamshala: Defending champions England bounced back in style as they trounced Bangladesh BY 137 runs at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium here on Tuesday. It was an all-round performance by Jos Buttler and his team at the picturesque venue.

  • 6.31 pm
Taskin Ahmed was the last man to be dismissed as England registered an emphatic 137-run against Bangladesh on Tuesday. Bangladesh was bundled out for 227 in 48.2 overs. England bounced back in style after they suffered a nine-wicket loss in their World Cup opener against New Zealand on Thursday last.
  • 6.18 pm
Pacer Mark Wood cleaned up Shoriful Islam (12 runs off 14 balls, with two boundaries). Islam was the ninth Bangladesh batter to walk back to the dressing room as England was just one wicket away from a win.
  • 6.04 pm
Mahedi Hasan (14 off 32 balls) was the eighth Bangladesh batter to be dismissed. He was cleaned up by Adil Rashid in the 41st over as England were looking at a big win, their first in this World Cup.
  • 5.54 pm
Towid Hridoy was sent back to the pavilion by part-time spinner Liam Livingstone. Hridoy, who made 39 off 61 balls, with two boundaries, was caught by Jos Buttler. England was now just three wickets away from victory.
  • 5.36 pm
Towid Hridoy (38 not out) and Mahedi Hasan (7 not out) are delaying the inevitable. Bangladesh still needs 179 runs in 72 balls, which now is almost an impossible task.
  • 5.22 pm
Reece Topley dismissed Mushfiqur Rahim (51 off 64 balls), who was caught by Adil Rashid at third man. It was Topley's fourth wicket of the innings and England are just four wickets away from registering their first victory of this World Cup.
  • 5.08 pm
Bangladesh has crossed the 150-run mark. Mushfiqur Rahim, who notched up his fifty, is waging a lone battle. Bangladesh still needs 205 runs in another 20 overs, which surely is not an easy task.
  • 4.44 pm
Litton Das's (76 runs off 66 balls) stay at the crease ended after he was caught by Jos Buttler off Chris Woakes in the 21st over. With half of their side back to the pavilion and the side still needing 236 runs, Bangladesh was staring at a huge defeat.
  • 4.35 pm
Litton Das, who is playing a blinder, and Mushfiqur Rahim, who have started freeing their arms, have kept the side in the hunt. Bangladesh has completed the team hundred and the duo is now expected to up the ante.
  • 4.16 pm
Litton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim are trying to take the game deep, but it is an uphill task for Bangladesh. The asking run rate has gone above eight. England needs to break the Das-Rahim partnership, which is now 562 runs.
  • 3.49 pm
It was Chris Woakes who joined the party. Woakes sent back Mehidy Hasan Miraz (8), who was caught by Jos Buttler, as Bangladesh was in deep trouble at 49/4.
  • 3.28 pm
Reece Topley struck for the third time and he was breathing fire. Topley, a lanky pacer, bowled Shakin-Al-Hasan (1) in the sixth over as Bangladesh was reeling at 26/3.
  • 3.06 pm
England pacer Recee Topley struck twice in the second over as Bangladesh lost opener Tanzid Hasan (1) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (0) on successive balls.
  • 2.28 pm
England posted 364/9 on the board. But the English team lost a flurry of wickets after Dawid Malan and Joe Root departed. The defending champions managed to add only 35 runs in the last five overs and lost three wickets. Dawid Malan top-scored for England with 140, while for Bangladesh Mahedi Hasan was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with figures of 4/71.
  • 2.13 pm
Sam Curran (11 off 15 balls) was dismissed in the 47th over, courtesy of a top catch by Najmul Hossain Shanto. England's middle and lower-middle order faltered but Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, and Joe Root had already done the damage.
  • 2.03 pm
Harry Brook was dismissed in the 45th over after he was caught by Litton Das off Mahedi Hasan. From 296/3, England slipped to 327/6. Chris Woakes joined Sam Curran.
  • 1.49 pm
Shoriful Islam dismissed Joe Root for 82. Root, who smashed eight boundaries and one six, in his 68-ball knock, was caught by Mushfiqur Rahim in the 42nd over. On the very next ball, he dismissed Liam Livingstone, who departed for a 'duck'. Harry Brook is joined by Sam Curran.
  • 1.41 pm
Jos Buttler's (20 off 10 balls) stay at the crease was cut short by Shoriful Islam in the 40th over. Islam bowled the English skipper. Young Harry Brook joined Root in the middle.
  • 1.26 pm
Mahedi Hasan removed Dawid Malan (140 off 107 balls) after he cleaned him up in the 38th over. Malan hammered 16 boundaries and five sixes. In walked skipper Jos Buttler, who smashed a six on his second ball.
  • 1.10 pm
Joe Root brought up his fifty. Dawid Malan, who completed his first ODI World Cup hundred, remained aggressive in his approach.
  • 12.56 pm
Dawid Malan completed his hundred with a single in the 32nd over as England cruised ahead. This is Malan's sixth ODI hundred post the 2019 World Cup and the left-handed batter would like to convert it to a 'Daddy Hundred'. Dawid Malan, who now has four centuries in 2023, joined David Gower (four centuries in 1983) and Jonny Bairstow (four centuries in 2018), for the most centuries in a calendar year by an English batter.
  • 12.44 pm
The departure of Jonny Bairstow did not affect Dawid Malan as he kept playing his shots. Malan and Joe Root continued to attack the Bangladesh bowlers as England neared team 200.
  • 11.57 am
Jonny Bairstow departs after a well-made 52 off 59 balls in the 17th over. He conjured a 115-run opening stand with Dawid Malan, who is looking set. Joe Root has joined Dawid Malan. Skipper Shakib provided the much-needed breakthrough for Bangladesh.
  • 11.32 am
England openers continued to pummel the Bangladesh attack to submission. The foundation for a mammoth total has been laid and both the batters are looking to convert their starts to a big score. Dawid Malan completed his fifty.
  • 11:19 am
England openers have provided a rock-solid start for the team with the current run rate at 6.81. England, after a slow start, are now playing on their standards.
  • 11:05 am
Back-to-back good shots from both the openers to solidify the English innings. Malan hits a six and a four in the fifth over, while Bairstow hit a boundary in the sixth over.
  • 10:55 am
Bangladesh was too confident and went for a review on a caught behind against Malan. There was a sound but of the shoulder. The third umpire signals it as not out. Bangladesh has lost a review.
  • 10:48 am
Jonny Bairstow, playing his 100th ODI, is seen a little confused facing Rahman's both-side swinging deliveries. It has been a slow start for the batting side compared to the type of gameplay they usually play.
  • 10:35 am
Dawid Malan finishes the first over with the drive-through extra cover against the left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman. A steady start for the English team.
  • 10 am
Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and asked England to bat first. The election to field first by Bangladesh could have been influenced by the probable dew factor in the high-altitude stadium in Dharamshala.
