Brad Pitt, Harry Connick Jr. among stars to join United We Sing

Scores of popular faces from Hollywood including Bradd Pitt, Connick Jr. and his daughter Georgia Connick are set to join a special program United We Sing in order to celebrate the essential workers in America amid coronavirus pandemic.

Washington: Brad Pitt, Harry Connick Jr. and more celebrities are teaming up for an upcoming star-studded special United We Sing: A Grammy Salute to the unsung heroes and honour essential workers across America.

According to Fox News, on Thursday, the Recording Academy, which puts on the Grammy Awards annually, announced that the two-hour special will air on CBS in June.

United We Sing will follow host Connick Jr. and his filmmaker-daughter Georgia Connick, as they take a road trip in an RV, celebrating and thanking essential workers amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Connicks will start their journey at their home in Connecticut and will visit various cities along the way before reaching their final destination of New Orleans.

According to a press release, "at each stop, the father-daughter duo listens to the stories of essential workers in healthcare, food preparation, sanitation, law enforcement, trucking and more to honour their dedication and public service during this unique moment in history."

In addition, Pitt, Oprah Winfrey, Sandra Bullock, Queen Latifah, Renee Zellweger and Drew Brees will all deliver special messages to workers.

The event will also feature performances by Hancock, John Fogerty, Jamie Foxx, Cyndi Lauper, Dave Matthews, Branford Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis, Tim McGraw, Little Big Town, Andra Day, Irma Thomas, Trombone Shorty, Rockin Dopsie, Jon Batiste and Connick Jr.

The special event has been organised to invite people to donate to charities supporting under served children, including No Kid Hungry and the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music in New Orleans, as well as to the MusiCares® COVID-19 Relief Fund, which is a charitable organization of the Recording Academy.
