Himachal landslide: 7 bodies recovered, rescue operations underway in Lahaul-Spiti

The bodies of 7 people have been recovered from Tonzing Nalla in Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh and the search and rescue operations are still underway. Heavy downpour for the past three days, triggered flash floods and landslides in the state. On Wednesday, a bridge in Shansha village was completely damaged. As per local administration, five bridges were also washed away due to flash floods.

Lahaul-Spiti (Himachal Pradesh): Search and rescue teams have recovered bodies of seven people from Tonzing Nalla in Lahaul-Spiti district on Wednesday. Heavy rains in the region triggered flash floods which led to several people go missing. There has also been heavy damage due to cloudburst in Udaipur of Lahaul Valley. NDRF teams are currently engaged in rescue operations.

Recently, 10 people had gone missing in the flash floods from Tonzing Nalla. Since Wednesday morning, the rescue teams were continuously searching for those who went missing and it was in the evening that the bodies of 7 people were recovered. The incessant rains pounded many parts of the state triggering landslides.

Due to the closure of roads, people are also facing problems, as they are forced to walk on foot. Meanwhile, the Public Works Department has initiated road repair works on a war footing. Five bridges have also been washed away due to the spate of rivers in the state. So far 202 people have died during the monsoon this year. A loss of 50,252.95 lakh has also been estimated in the state due to the monsoon so far.
