NISHAD Party chief Sanjay Nishad on Tuesday met BJP president JP Nadda and said that his talks in Delhi were fruitful, adding that no party in the state can win without his party's support, writes ETV Bharat reporter Mohammad Tauseef Ahmad.

New Delhi: With the state assembly elections a few months away in Uttar Pradesh, NISHAD Party chief Sanjay Nishad on Tuesday met BJP president JP Nadda and said that his talks in Delhi were fruitful and no party in the state can win without his party's support.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, NISHAD Party chief Sanjay Nishad said, "During 2019 Lok Sabha polls, we were promised an important position in UP Vidhan Sabha and in the Centre too but this got delayed due to Coronavirus pandemic. I came here to Delhi to remind Union Home Minister Amit Shah about those promises. After meeting the two leaders, I am assured of proper respect to the Nishad community and our party will be given a cabinet berth as well."

Claiming that around 18% of the vote bank in Uttar Pradesh belongs to the Nishad community, the party chief said no party in the state can win without their support. He said that in the upcoming assembly elections Nishad Party will be winning a respectable number of seats. Speaking about his talks held with BJP president, Nishad said we discussed the 'Nishad reservation' issue and have asked them to move our community reservation from OBC and give us reservation as scheduled castes and issue 'Majhwar' certificates (a community of fishermen or boatmen).

When he was asked about what if BJP fails to fulfill its promises, he said, "Nishad party has a stronghold in over 160 assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh and more than 70,000 vote bank in 70 seats which belong to the Nishad community. BJP has seen the results by not sharing panchayat election seats with us. They will not do this again and BJP will contest the next year's UP polls in alliance with us." Nishad chief said that we have not demanded the chief minister's seat in Uttar Pradesh, we only want the second seat beside him. "If I will get the power, I will turn Uttar Pradesh into Uttam Pradesh. The image of our state is not good in our country," he added.
