Cloud burst damages roads leading to Dehradun's Maldevta

A cloudburst on late Wednesday night damaged the road leading to the Maldevta area in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Cabinet minister Ganesh Joshi has reached the spot to monitor the situation.

Dehradun (Uttarakhand): A cloudburst that took place in Dehradun has left the road leading to the Maldevta area damaged and blocked with debris. Heavy rains also pounded the region leaving the roads leading to PPCL and Dwara completely closed. As a result, there was no connectivity to dozens of villages, hotels, restaurants and homestays. Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi too reached the spot and is in touch with the officials. The destruction is such that the debris and rainwater damaged houses, hotels, dhabas and farms.

The road in Jhol village of Maldevta in Dehradun was also blocked with rubble, following heavy rainfall in the region. Construction of a road towards Boantha village which was underway has also been stalled as overnight heavy rainfall left the roads blocked with mud and debris. Earlier, on May 20, four people had gone missing after a cloudburst in Uttarakhand state. According to the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), the body of one person was retrieved, while efforts were on to find other missing people in Chakrata town the district. Recently, Cyclone Tauktae brought torrential rains to Uttarakhand pounding the region for two days. There has also been a drastic drop in temperature due to continuous rains.
