US President Donald Trump announced that his country will sign deals worth USD 3 billion for supplying helicopters to the Indian military.

Ahmedabad (Gujarat): US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that his country will sign deals worth USD 3 billion for supplying helicopters to the Indian military.

Addressing the 'Namaste Trump' event at Motera stadium here, he said that the US looks forward to providing India with some of the best and most feared military equipment on the planet. He said that the deal will be signed on Tuesday.

"I am pleased to announce that tomorrow our representatives will sign deals to sell over USD 3 Billion, in the absolute finest state of the art military helicopters and other equipment to the Indian armed forces," Trump said.

"As we continue to build our defence cooperation, the US looks forward to providing India with some of the best and most feared military equipment on the planet. We make the greatest weapons ever made. We make the best and we are dealing now with India. But this includes advanced air defence systems and armed and unarmed aerial vehicles," he added.

Referring to the tri-service exercise between the two countries held last year, Trump said, "Just months ago, this critical partnership took a major step forward when the US Military and your brave Indian Armed Forces conducted the first-ever air, land and sea military exercise between our two countries. It was something to behold. We called it Tiger-Triumph."

"Together we will defend our sovereignty, security and protect a free and open Indo-Pacific region for our children and for the many-many generation to come," said the US President.

Key points of Trump's speech at the Motera Stadium

  • President Donald Trump in his speech praised India's growth and development by saying that "In last 70 years India has become an economic giant. Since the turn of the century India's economy has grown more than 6 times in size"
  • Trump also said that in a single decade India has lifted over 270 million people out of poverty and 320 million people are right now connected to the internet
  • He further added that the pace of highway constructions has more than doubled in India. India will soon be the home of the biggest middle class anywhere in the world and withing less than 10 years extreme poverty in your country is projected to completely disappear
  • Trump also praised the Indian Americans by saying that they enrich every aspect of their national life as there are tightens of business, pioneers of science, masters of the art and innovation of technology and Americans are eager to strengthen these beautiful ties between people
  • On trade deal he said that Prime Minister Modi and I will also discuss our efforts to expand the economic ties between the two countries
  • Commerce between the two nations has increased by more than 40 per cent. India is now a major market for American exports and the United States is India's largest export market
  • Prime Minister Modi has already made significant reforms for bring investment and ease of doing business. The world looks forward to even more rapid improvement to India's business climate.
  • Trump said that he is delighted to be joined by dozens of Indian women entrepreneurs who are helping to build nations future
  • President Trump also said that India and the United States will be friends and partners on our voyage into the stars and into space.
