Kannur: In a shocking incident, a 38-year-old man hacked his 7-month old baby to death and grievously injured his wife before slitting his throat to commit suicide. The infant died of excessive bleeding and his wife is now admitted to a private hospital under critical condition. Satheesh, who committed this ghastly act, succumbed to his injuries.

Police said Satheesh locked his mother in a room before attacking his wife Anju and his baby using a kitchen knife. The incident happened around 8 am on Friday. The reason for the crime is yet to be known.

The locals rushed to the spot after hearing the cries of Satheesh's mother Devaki and broke into the house. They rushed the injured to the hospital. Dhyan Dev, the 7-month-old infant, died before reaching the hospital due to excessive bleeding. Police said Anju who is admitted to a private hospital continued to be in a critical state. Kannur city police commissioner R Ilango visited the crime spot and further investigations are on.
