Global efforts have intensified to curb the Covid crisis in India. In a recent development, the biggest oxygen plant sent by Germany is all set to function at DRDO’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Covid Hospital with its test run to be held on Monday.

New Delhi: With India’s healthcare system on the brink of collapse as the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic has hit the nation hard, countries all across the globe are leaving no stone unturned to extend a helping in this fight.

The biggest oxygen plant sent by Germany, with the capacity of generating 4 lakh litres of oxygen, is all set to function at DRDO’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Covid Hospital.

The test run of this plant is scheduled to be held on Monday.

The oxygen generating plant was shipped in two parts. The first part arrived on Thursday and a shipment carrying the second part of the oxygen generating plant from Germany landed in India on Friday.

Earlier on Saturday, German Ambassador to India Walter J Linder inspected the oxygen plant.

Taking to Twitter, the German envoy said, "GER & IND military medics working hand in hand d&n setting up one of the biggest mobile oxygen production plants on the market at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Covid Hospital. First plane arrived 2 days ago, installation finished tomorrow, Monday test run & first cylinders filled..."

Besides this, Germany has also sent 120 ventilators and four empty cryogenic oxygen containers to India.

Meanwhile, a shipment carrying 50 ventilators and 25,000 vials of Remdisivir from Canada has reached India on Saturday.

MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi in a tweet said, "Further deepening our Strategic Partnership. Thank our partner & friend Canada for shipment of 50 ventilators and 25000 vials of Remdesivir."

Japan is equally seen contributing to India’s need as its health infrastructure sinks.

A gift of 100 oxygen concentrators from Japan has reached India on Saturday.

"From US to Singapore, Germany to Thailand. The world continues to stand with India," External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said in a tweet.

Also, the third consignment of 25,000 doses of Remdesivir from Gilead Sciences has reached India from the United States.

A total of 1, 80,000 vaccine doses have reached so far.

According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has recorded over 4 lakh new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours on Friday, taking the country’s total caseload to over 2.18 crore.

Out of these, over 37 lakh cases are currently active while over 1.79 crore people have recovered.

Last year India has provided COVID-19 vaccines, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment to more than 150 countries across the world.
