Delhi Police crime branch probing case of Chandra brothers in Tihar Jail

The Delhi Police Crime Branch has started investigation into the connections of former Unitech promoters Sanjay Chandra and Ajay Chandra, who were running their offices from within Tihar Jail, the jail officials. A letter has been sent to the jail seeking important information in this connection.

New Delhi: The Delhi Police crime branch has started an investigation in to the connections of former Unitech promoters Sanjay Chandra and Ajay Chandra, who were allegedly running an underground office in south Delhi from within the Tihar Jail premises, with jail officials.

The crime branch has written a letter to the jail authorities seeking a lot of information in this connection. Officials of the crime branch are also likely to visit the jail as part of the investigation. The Supreme Court has directed the police commissioner to investigate the collusion between the Chandra brothers and the jail authorities.

According to information received, Sanjay Chandra and Ajay Chandra were lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail No. 7. But in connivance with the jail officials, they were running an office from inside the jail. Expressing displeasure over this, the Supreme Court ordered the transfer of both of them to a jail in Mumbai. Along with this, instructions were given to the police commissioner to find information about the jail officials who helped the Chandra brothers. The police commissioner has handed over the investigation of this case to the crime branch.

The crime branch has written a letter to the jail administration in this case asking in which jail the Chandra brothers were lodged in Tihar. Apart from this, information has been sought about those officers who had responsibilities for the Chandra brothers. These include superintendent, deputy superintendent, assistant superintendent and other jail staff.

Along with this, CCTV footage of these jails has also been sought. Sources say that the crime branch may soon call these officers for questioning.
