The Apex Court on Wednesday directed Sajjan Kumar, convicted and serving a life sentence in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, to appear before an AIIMS Board at 10:30 am on Thursday to determine whether or not he needs to be hospitalised.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court bench led by the Chief Justice of India SA Bobde ordered Sajjan Kumar, convicted and serving a life sentence in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, to be produced before the AIIMS board at 10:30 am on March 5.

The Board will then submit a report on whether Kumar needs to be hospitalised or not.

The case pertaining to the bail of Congress member and 1984 anti-Sikh riots case accused Sajjan Kumar was heard by the bench comprising of CJI SA Bobde, Justice BR Gavai and Justice Surya Kant.

Earlier, a medical report by the AIIMS was submitted by the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta before the apex court. A team of 8 doctors examined Kumar on December 10 and the report said that the patient was normal, but has been experiencing hypertension along with three more issues and further suggested quarterly checkups.

The doctor's report also advised that Sajjan Kumar needed institutional care and examination to rule out any major illness.
