'Gravity' just a relative word: Singhvi

Arguing on the word 'gravity' used by the Delhi High Court in its judgment, Singhvi said that for someone, rape might be the biggest grave, but for some, it might be murder or sedition.

"It is just a relative word. The gravity is identified by the punishment prescribed by the legislature and not what the judge thinks. Gravity is a subjective word. CrPc identifies a punishment more than 7 years as grave and the punishment in all these cases is less than 7 years," he said.

"By repeatedly using the word grave or gravity in its judgment, the Delhi High Court is only adding a subjective adjective," he added.
