India releases six Pak prisoners as 'peace gesture'

As a peace gesture, India released six Pakistani Prisoners, who were lodged in Indian Jails because of visa overstay. The prisoners were released via Attari-Wagah border, the same route that the Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman had crossed on March 1, 2019.

Attari (Punjab): Six Pakistani nationals, including a minor, who were lodged in Indian Jails, crossed over to Pakistan via the Attari-Wagah border after being released by Indian on Friday.

Border Security Force (BSF) handed over the five Pakistani nationals including- Nawab Khan, Shah Jahan, Azara Khan, Aamir Khan, Ishrati and Shaishta Khan- to Pakistani Officials.

However, five of them are from the same family and are residents of Karachi, Pakistani media outlet Samaa TV said in a report. All six of them were imprisoned last year in India because of visa overstay.

This comes after Pakistan released 300 Indian Prisoners, mostly fishermen, as a "goodwill gesture" amidst tensions between the two countries after the Pulwama terror attack.
