शाहिद अफ्रीदी ने ट्विटर पर अपनी पांचवीं बेटी की तस्वीर सांझा की जिसमें वो और नवजात बच्ची के साथ पूरा परिवार नजर आ रहा था. उस फोटो में शाहिद भी काफी खुश नजर आ रहे थे. हालांकि उनके इस फोटो को शेयर करने के बाद ट्विटर पर उन्हें खूब निशाना बनाया गया.

उन्होंने ट्वीट किया, 'सर्वशक्तिमान की दुआएं और कृपा मुझ पर है. पहले से शानदार बेटियों का पिता होने का सौभाग्य मुझे मिला हुआ है और अब मेरे घर पांचवीं बेटी हुई है. अलहमदुल्लाह. यह अच्छी खबर मैं अपने सभी शुभचिंतकों के साथ साझा कर रहा हूं.'
अफरीदी के इस पोस्ट पर हर किसी ने अपनी अलग-अलग तरह की टिप्पणी की जिसमें कुछ लोग उन्हें मुबारक दे रहे हैं वहीं कुछ ऐसे भी लोग हैं जो उन्हें सलाह दे रहे हैं. सालह के मामले में कई लोगों ने उनको लड़कियों के बारे में दिए गए अपने बयान को याद दिलाया. एक यूजर ने कहा, 'आपको कब समझ आएगा कि पाकिस्तान में आबादी नियंत्रण करने की जरूरत है. 4 बेटियां काफी नहीं थीं? या फिर एक बेटे की चाह में आप लड़कियों की क्रिकेट टीम बनाएंगे? अगर आपको और बच्चे चाहिए तो आप कुछ अनाथ बच्चों को गोद लेकर उन्हें अच्छी जिंदगी दे सकते हैं.'

बेटियों के आउटडोर गेम्स में ना जाने को लेकर अफरीदी ने रखी थी अपनी राय
बीते कुछ समय पहले अफरीदी विवादों में फंस गए थे जब उन्होंने अपनी बेटियों के आउटडोर गेम्स खेलने को लेकर कहा था कि वो उन्हें क्रिकेट या कोई अन्य खेल खेलने की इजाजत नहीं देंगे क्योंकि उसके पीछे 'सामाजिक और धार्मिक कारण' हैं.
उन्होंने कहा था, 'नारीवादी मेरे फैसले के बारे में कुछ भी कह सकते हैं. बेटियों को कोई भी खेल खेलने की इजाजत है जब तक वो घर के अंदर हैं. क्रिकेट? नहीं, मेरी बेटियों के लिए ये खेल नहीं है. उन्हें कोई भी इनडोर खेल खेलने की इजाजत है, लेकिन मेरी बेटियां पब्लिक स्पोर्ट में शामिल नहीं हो सकतीं.'
शाहिद अफ्रीदी की इस तरह की टिप्पणी के बाद वो हर जगह लोगों की नाराजगी का कारण बने थे. यहां तक मीडिया में भी उनके बयान की चर्चा हुई थी.
शाहिद अफ्रीदी की शादी अपनी रिश्तेदार नादिया के साथ हुई थी. उनकी चार बेटियों के नाम- अक्सा, अंशान, अजवा और अशमारा हैं.
