The southern state has 39 seats, while its neighbouring Union Territory, which shares the same mother tongue — Tamil, has one. The DMK which is the ruling party in Tamil Nadu is likely to sweep the state, which has remained a citadel of Dravidian Parties. The erstwhile Secular Progressive Alliance had swept the state in 2019. The two-way contest in most seats and the heavyweights fighting from the BJP-led third front in the state may play spoilsport helping the DMK combine romp home.
