Hangzhou: The Indian duo of Arjun Singh and Sunil Singh bagged bronze ensuring India's second canoeing medal in the history of the Asian Games. The Indian pair finished behind Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to conclude the race at the third spot. Arjun and Sunil clocked a time of 3.53.329 while Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan registered times of 3.49.991 and 3.43.796. Uzbekistan's Shokhmurod Kholmuradov and Nurislom Tukhtasin Ugli managed to clinch the gold with a superb timing.
It was the 1994 edition when the duo of Siji Sadanandan and Johnny Rommel bagged a bronze in the same event for India. Arjun and Sunil repeated the same achievement in the ongoing Asian Games by securing a podium finish for the country. The canoeing event kicked off from September 30 and the Indian duo ensured first medal for the country. The event will conclude on Tuesday and India will be looking at their athletes to bag multiple medals.

Niraj Verma featured for India earlier in the day in canoe single 1000m but missed the medal after clocking a time of 4.36.314 and finished at the seventh place. Soniya Devi Phairembam will present the Indian challenge in women's kayak single 500m race and will attempt to add to the medal tally for the country.
Notably, it is India's 34th bronze in the ongoing Asian Games and they are placed at the fourth spot with a total of 61 medals which includes 13 golds.
