Chennai: A man carrying a sword vandalised the Chennai office of popular news channel "Sathiyam TV", police said on Tuesday. According to reports, the man, identified as 31-year-old Rajesh Kumar from Coimbatore, entered the office premises carrying a guitar bag. The channel released the CCTV footage showing the man threatening workers in the office after he took out the sword from the guitar bag.
After he entered into a heated argument with the staff, he started vandalising the office property, one of the TV channel workers said. On getting informed, Royapuram police reached the spot and took him into custody after seizing his weapon. Police also recovered his driving license from the spot. According to the staff members, the man visited the office to launch an attack on the channel’s managing director.

Police informed that the managing director of the channel received a phone call from the accused where he threatened to kill him and demolish Sathyam TV. A case has been registered and further investigation into the matter is underway. The Chennai Union of Journalists has also condemned the attack urging the Tamil Nadu government to enact a law ensuring the safety of journalists and media organisations.
