No Sikh will go on work in Srinagar says Delhi Gurdwara Committee

Day after militants killed two teachers in Srinagar, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee on Friday asked Sikh to refrain from going to work in the Valley until strict security arrangements have been made for them

New Delhi: Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee on Friday said that no Sikh will go to work in the Valley until strict arrangements are being made for their safety. The Committee decided after militants gunned down two teachers, including a woman, in the Eidgah area of Srinagar in Kashmir Valley on Thursday.

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa said, "A letter has been sent to the Chief Secretary in this regard. It has also been appealed to the minorities living in the valley that they should not be afraid of such an incident but face it firmly. Don't even think to leave the place."

Further speaking Manjinder added that such incidents in the valley are an attempt to threaten the minority community living there.

"This is an attempt to threaten the minorities living in the valley. The terrorist organisation, which has claimed responsibility, stated that Independence Day was celebrated in the school that's why the teachers were killed. The terrorists opened fire on the teachers after verifying their Id card," Manjinder Singh said, adding that the heads of all the Singh Sabhas and Gurdwaras have also expressed their concern.

The Sikh community has appealed to the central government to take strict action against the accused and ensure safety to the people living there. In Jammu and Kashmir this is an attack on the school, the temple of education has been attacked, no one would have imagined it.
