In an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat, Dr. S M Ahmed, an Ex- ISRO Scientist who was a part of Chandrayaan – 1, praised ISRO for successfully launching its second Moon mission, drew parallels between Chandrayaan-1 and 2, apart from elaborating on the signficance of such missions.
Ahmed said, "The experience gained from Chandrayaan-2 is going play a very important role in ISRO's venture to planet Venus. Its a crucial step which will make ISRO a very big player in planetray exploration."
Explaining the difference between the first Moon mission of the country and Chandrayaan-2, Ahmed said, "this is very different compared to Chandrayaan-1 as this time around we have an orbiter, a lander and a rover. The lander is named 'Vikram' which is carrying the rover as well called 'Pragyaan'. Once it gets into a proper orbit, the Chandrayaan will try to soft land. Soft landing is a very tricky task and this is the first time that ISRO is attempting this."

After the successful launch of Chandrayaan-2- India's second moon mission- on Monday, Sneh Kesari, CEO Astrophile Education services and an expert on space-related issues said that the mission would carry forward the discoveries made by Chandrayaan-1, which was launched in 2008.
Speaking exclusively to ETV Bharat, Kesari said, "The mission will go to the southern poll of the Moon, where sunlight is very oblique, and consequentially the presence of water, in any form, is always going to be preserved in its craters. Hence, we are aiming to discover the presence of water on the Moon's surface."
Elaborating on the mission, Kesari said, "Chandrayaan is expected to reach the Moon in 30-35 days. The total duration of the mission, from when the orbiter reaches the Moon, will be one year for the orbiter. One day on the moon is close to 14 and a half to 15 days on Earth. And, as the sunlight will be present on the surface for only 15 days on the southern, which is where the lander and rover would be, the duration of the mission on the surface will be 15 days only."

Sriharikota (Andhra Pradesh): India's second moon mission Chandrayaan-2, which aimed at landing a rover on unchartered Lunar South Pole, was launched at 2:43 pm on Monday with the country's most powerful geosynchronous launch vehicle successfully injecting the spacecraft in the Earth's orbit after a lift-off from the Sriharikota spacesport.
The 43.43m tall three stage rocket GSLV-MkIII-M1 blasted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre here into cloudy skies at 2.43 p.m and about 16 minutes later released the 3,850 kg Chandrayaan-2 into the orbit, a week after the earlier launch was called off on July 15 following a technical snag observed during the propellant filling stage.
The injection of the Chandrayaan-2 into the Earth's orbit marks the successful accomplishment of the first phase of the ambitious mission that will take about 48 days to land on the Moon's surface.
The launch took place at the end of a 20-hour countdown that started at 6.43 pm Sunday after the Indian Space Research Organisation scientists rectified the glitch that prompted them to call of the earlier launch.
The three-component Chandrayaan-2 comprising an orbiter, a lander and a rover will undergo 15 crucial manoeuvres before landing on the moon, expected by the first week of September, ISRO said.
Billed as the most complex and prestigious mission undertaken by the ISRO since its inception, Chandrayaan-2 will make India the fourth country to soft land a rover on the lunar surface after Russia, the United States and China.
