Video shot after Mahant's death causes flutter

A video reportedly shot shortly after Mahant Narendra Giri was found dead has caused a flutter.

Prayagraj: A video that has recently made it to social media, reportedly shot moments after the death of Mahant Narendra Giri who allegedly died by suicide has raised many brows.

The video which runs for less than a minute opens with the body of Mahant placed on the floor and some of his followers are heard weeping.

The noose which the Mahant reportedly used for hanging has been untied and a portion of it is seen clinging to the ceiling fan.

Inspector General of Police(IG) KP Singh, who was present in the scene of crime, is heard asking the members of Parishad as to why the fan was running and who has switched it on. One of the members present in the room is heard responding that he had switched it on. The IG is also heard posing questions about the death and the deceased seer.


On Sep 21, Mahant Narendra Giri, was found dead at his Baghambri Math ashram. Police have recovered 6 pages of suicide notes from the spot, in which his disciple Anand Giri, Agha Tiwari and one other has been named. All three are taken into police custody for interrogation.

While Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad which raised suspicion over the death of Mahant Narendra Giri had sought an inquiry by Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI), the Centre has the Uttar Pradesh Government has recommended the centre to shift the investigation to the CBI.

Meanwhile, a five-member of the CBI team has arrived at Prayagraj to investigate Mahant's death. The team has set in motion the formal process of taking over the investigation. The team has also visited the police lines to collect a copy of the FIR.
