Thiruvananthapuram Airport to be handed over to Adani Group

Thiruvananthapuram airport is one of the 6 airports that the Central Government decided to privatise. The 90-year-old airport would be renamed Adani Trivandrum Airport Limited once the handing over is completed.

Thiruvananthapuram: Among ongoing protests and a petition of the Kerala Government against privatisation of Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in the Supreme Court, the Adani Group will take over the airport on Wednesday midnight. The Airport Authority of India officials will hand over the documents to complete the privatisation process at the airport during midnight hours.

Adani Group will then take over the operations and maintenance of the airport for the next 50 years. As per the lease agreement, each passenger would pay Rs 168 to the Adani Group.

Thiruvananthapuram airport is one of the 6 airports that the Central Government decided to privatise. The State Government is in disagreement with this move and had even passed a resolution in the Assembly against it. It then approached the Supreme Court against the move and the petition is still under consideration by the Apex Court.

Adani Group employees have been working along with the Airport Authority of India officials at Thiruvananthapuram airport since last August as part of the handing over procedures.

The 90-year-old airport would be renamed Adani Trivandrum Airport Limited once the handing over is completed. The Central Civil Aviation Ministry would continue to hold control over air traffic control, emigration, health department, meteorological department, and security agencies at the airport.
