Singhu Border (Delhi): A man was murdered, his hand chopped and the body was seen tied to a barricade near the farmers' protest venue in the Haryana-Delhi border on Friday morning.

Allegations are that the man was caught desecrating the Sikh holy book, however, an official confirmation is still awaited.

According to images that have gone viral on social media, speculations are rife that the man was tortured prior to being killed. This incident of the brutal killing of the man has sent shockwaves throughout the nation.

As per the latest reports, a police team had reached the spot and recovered the body. "The body has been sent to a nearby Civil hospital and further investigation is going on," sources told the media.

Later in the evening, a Nihang Sikh man surrendered before the Delhi police in connection with the case.

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has also blamed some Nihangs — who were allegedly at the spot — of carrying out the brutal crime, adding that they have been causing problems in and around the protest sites since day one.

"A Nihang group at the scene has claimed responsibility, saying that the incident took place because of the deceased's attempt to commit sacrilege with regard to the Sarbaloh Granth," a statement issued by the farmers' union read.

SKM further claimed the deceased has been staying with the same group of Nihangs for "some time".

"...(SKM) wants to make it clear that both the parties to this incident, the Nihang group and the deceased person, have no relation with Samyukt Kisan Morcha.

"The Morcha is against sacrilege of any religious text or symbol, but that dies not give anyone the right to take the law into their own hands. We demand that the culprits be punished according to law after investigating the allegation of murder and conspiracy behind sacrilege. As always, Samyukt Kisan Morcha will cooperate with the police and administration in any lawful action," the statement added.

Recently, on October 3, an SUV had mowed down a group of farmers and a mob lynching incident also took place during the farmers' protest. In the incident, four farmers were killed apart from five others.

Farmer organisations have claimed that so far 630 farmers have died protesting against the three farm laws.

The Forensic Science Laboratory team has been informed about the case.
