Madhya Pradesh BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma reacting to the matter of anti-national slogans having been raised by some people in Ujjain, on the occasion of Moharram, has made a controversial statement. The MLA's statement has heated up political circles in the state.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma reacted strongly to the anti-national slogans raised by some people in Ujjain, on the occasion of Moharram. The MLA said, "If they (people who raised anti-national slogans) had drunk their mother's milk then they should stay in Taliban-Afghanistan for a few days. India is run by the constitution made by Baba Saheb (B. R. Ambedkar)."

What exactly happened on Aug 19 in Ujjain?

On the night of 19 August 2021 in Ujjain, people had gathered in the Geeta Colony area to have darshan of Baba Saheb on the occasion of Muharram. Among them, some anti-social elements having mingled in the crowd and began raising anti-national slogans. Also, a 30-second video of the incident went viral on social media. After the incident, officials from the city administration reached the spot and a large number of police forces were deployed to maintain law and order in the area. Based on the video footage, police have registered a case against 16 people, out of which 10 have been arrested.

Case registered against 16 people

Ujjain SP Satyendra Kumar Shukla said, "A case has been registered against 16 people for raising anti-national slogans. Out of which 10 have been arrested and presented in the court."

A case was registered at the Jivajiganj police station under IPC sections 124 (a) (sedition), 153 (provocation which can cause riot) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of IPC, a local official had said.
