Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday evening claimed to have arrested a Srinagar resident for his involvement in the Hari Singh High Street grenade attack.
“Police have arrested the grenade thrower who was involved in today’s incident at Hari Singh High Street Srinagar in which a few civilians and one police personnel got injured,” Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said.
He further said," the grenade thrower has been identified as Aijaz Wani son of Fayaz Wani, a resident of Fateh Kadal area of Srinagar. Aijaz has been a chronic stone pelter and initial investigations have revealed that he threw the grenade at the behest of militants."
Earlier in the day, seven persons including an ACB inspector were injured when a grenade was hurled at the security forces posted at Hari Singh High Street area of the city.
Police have identified the injured as Asmat (40) wife of Zahoor Ahmad Hajam of Charar-i-Shareef, — Tanveera (38) and her husband Muhammad Shafi Bhat (43) of Chattabal, ACB inspector Tanveer Hussain of Budgam, Nusrat (48) wife of Dr Tazeem of Nawab Bazaar, Zahoor Ahmad Lone (30) son of Ghulam Rasool of Khaniyar and a non-local Gayas ud Din (35) son of Zain ul Aabudin of Assam.
According to the police official, all the injured were shifted to nearby SMHS hospital and their condition is stable.
