"Certainly, coronavirus would have impact on our economy but it would be a short-term one. There would be no long-term impact on our economy. The government has made provisions in the budget that would strengthen it," he said.

Commenting on the government increasing excise duty on petrol, the BJP leader said it was being done to stabilize the impact of fluctuating global prices of the product.

"Government does it as and when required. It also cuts prices and pass on the benefit to the public," he said, adding that the resources generated are always used to enhance infrastructure and even states are given more funds for various schemes from the same resources.

On being asked if the government should have declared emergency keeping in mind the way coronavirus cases were increasing, he said situation is not that bad in India and all possible efforts were made to contain it.
