New Delhi: Against the backdrop of Government of India's claim of a successful Open Dedication Free (ODF) mission, experts working in the sector has said that India needs Swacch Bharat Mission (SBM) 2.0.
"Making India ODF sounds good on papers, but in reality more needs to be done," said Dr Renu Khosla, Director, Centre for Urban and Regional Excellence (CURE).
"Swacch Bharat Mission (SBM) 2.0 is very much required. It will bring the behavioural changes among the people," said Dr Khosla.
She said that SBM 2.0 will deal with three components: behaviour-finance-environment.
"In their pursuit of getting marks, cities announce themselves ODF. But our study shows ODF is yet to be achieved...open hotspot is still a reality," said Dr Khosla.
Government data shows that 23 states across India have been marked as ODF and theyaim to make India ODF by October 2019. ODF is a component of Centre's Swacch Bharat Mission.
"Usage of toilets needs to be addressed properly. Community toilet should be turned into the home toilet," opined Dr Khosla.
